The Kenneth L. King Memorial Reading Project drive begins Friday, September 30 and runs through the end of November! This project strives to provide a new book to every first grader in Noble, Wanette and Byars' schools.
Ken King was an avid supporter of reading programs throughout the state during his life. He was a Trustee of the Pioneer Multi-County Library system for many years, and worked with other community leaders to have the Noble Public Library built. He also contributed to many local school reading programs, including Noble and Lexington.
His wife, Dr. Betty King, was the first woman in history to receive a doctorate from the University of Oklahoma in Reading Education. As an administrator and teacher, she has created and participated in many, many reading initiatives.
The project's slogan is "Bank on reading - it pays dividends all your life!". Imagine the joy in the face of a first grader when they realize the book is THEIRS TO KEEP. For many, this is the first book they've ever owned.
